Video 40: Should you buy a house if your monthly payment is lower than your rent? Not necessarily. Just because your monthly payment is lower does not mean it is cheaper to own a home. Any repairs are your expense, so when the hot water heater or AC goes out, there is no calling the landlord. I personally would not buy a house without a 6-month total cost of living emergency fund, but that is just my cautious side. I know many people disagree with me and that is all this is, one opinion.
