Mesa to announce Man & Women of the year

Living in the Marlborough Mesa development I have grown to really love the City of Mesa. Having not been here long I am still trying to do all I can to learn it’s history. One tradition Mesa does have is acknowledge the Man & Women of the year with an award. The award is given to a man and women who have made a significant difference in our community.

If you have someone you would like to nominate instructions are provided on the citizensoftheyear.org website. The site also contains a list of past winners.

Light Rail maps

December 27th at 10 a.m. the Phoenix Metro Light Rail opens! There will be music, exhibits and other activities at various park-n-ride light rail locations throughout the East Valley including Tempe and Mesa.

On both Saturday the 27th and Sunday the 28th you will be able to ride 20-mile the light rail for free.

Not sure if the light rail will be beneficial to you? Check out the more detailed maps to see where the light rail will be making stops.

I know there was a lot of mixed opinions on whether the light rail should have been built or not. No matter what your opinion was, light rail is here. Give it a try, who knows it may surprise you.

This is much better

The last few days in Mesa have been great for getting out and walking the neighborhood, but I’m glad the warmer weather is back. Living in the Marlborough Mesa development I like to get out and walk around and enjoy the parks, the canal and the rest of the neighborhood. The last few days have been great for doing that as the high temperatures were only hitting 75-78 degrees.

So now that it is back up to 93 why am I so happy? Those nights were cold! When you walk out front at 5am to pick up your newspaper and the temperature is only 43 degrees, it made me wonder if I moved far enough south when I came from Pennsylvania. With winter coming and the low night time temps in West Mesa now back up to a normal 63 degrees this is one Realtor who is much happier.

Print newspaper industry is changing; Tribune cutting service

Over the last year print newspapers have been cutting back staffs in an effort to save money. While the East Valley Tribune has made dozens of cuts, the cost cutting methods have not been enough.

Today the Tribune has announced they are cutting 40% of their staff and making drastic changes which include going to four days a week. The Tribune will be withdrawing from the Scottsdale and Tempe markets completely. While they will continue delivery service to Mesa, Chandler and Gilbert, they will be cutting back to four editions per week and will be publishing online for the other three days.
